Birchbox 5th Birthday | The Happy Birchday September Box

This month, Birchbox are celebrating their 5th birthday! Back in 2010, Birchbox launched in the USA and is now available in many other countries including the UK, boasting 1 million subscribers globally. Birchbox's 5th birthday officially makes it the oldest beauty subscription service and in my opinion, the best. To celebrate, Birchbox created a box this month filled with goodies from American brands to celebrate where it all began 5 years ago. Also, if you're a subscriber, you're already entered to win a trip to the most amazing city in the world where Birchbox was born, New York City! How amazing! Read on to find out what I received in this months Happy Birchday box...

Birchbox 5th Birthday | The Happy Birchday September BoxThe first product and my favourite is the Birchbox Birchbrush. The concept is quite similar to the much loved Tangle Teezer however the Birchbrush is more of an egg-shape and much more compact than the Tangle Teezer. Easy to pop in your handbag while on the go or whilst traveling, I'm definitely bringing this on holiday with me next month!

Another hair product is the John Masters Organics Citrus Neroli Detangler which hails from New York City. I really love the sound of this especially now my hair has started to get extremely knotty again! This detangler contains coconut oil and wheat amino acids that help nourish hair strands whilst white neroli and grapefruit soothe troublesome scalps. It sounds just like what my hair needs right now!

The next product comes all the way from Seattle and it is the Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant. Probably the most intriguing product for me in this months box, this isn't like your normal exfoliator. Instead of rinsing off, this is a leave on exfoliant so you can apply moisturiser and SPF on top. Something I've never tried before so I'm really looking forward to giving it a go.

The Beauty Protector Beauty Wash hails all the way from New York City and it is said to be a rich, foaming in-shower body wash with a refreshing clean, floral scent. I'm looking forward to giving it a try!

The product I was most excited about was the Laqa & Co Cheeky Lip Pencil in Cray-Cray. Unfortunately it turned out to be rather disappointing. The shade Cray-Cray is right up my street, a lovely coral peach and you know how much I love a coral lip! However, this just looks absolutely awful on my lips! It is said to be 'ultra-pigmented' but it's far from it, it is in fact super patchy and just looks horrible. So disappointing.

I was a little disappointed to receive the next product. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Benefit and they are one of my favourite brands however I just have no use for this product. The POREfessional: License to Blot is an oil-blotting stick that mattifies shine for up to 6 hours. If you have read this blog for sometime, you know I have dry skin and I don't suffer from oily patches so as I said before, I have no use for this so I'm going to have to give it to someone else. However, this seems like a great product for people who do have oily skin!

Overall, I had hoped this months box would be a little bit better, it's definitely not the best Birchbox I've received. I don't think including a product for people with oily skin in every subscribers box was a good move, as not everyone suffers with oily patches. However there are some great products in this months box that I can't wait to try, such as the Paula's Choice Liquid Exfoliant.

If you like the look of Birchbox and would like to subscribe you can do so here. It is only £12.95 a month including shipping and you receive 6 deluxe beauty samples. Also if you join up before 30th September you'll be entered in the draw to win a trip to New York City!
